Hunger Games Review

I've just watched hunger games, The summer blockbuster to hit our pictures over last year. I've heard great reviews and monumental critic's approval. I've had my friends recommending me to watch it since he says it's the most beloved films he's ever seen and whenever he sees a book or something to do with hunger games, you goes over and tells me that i desperately need to watch it. Well i've watched it this weekend and here's my opinion of it.

Hunger games is based in the future of maybe our planet or another planet. I've said a couple of times that it might be based in our planet since of the monuments such as the Washington tower and the russian embassy building but since they've all been decorated with pretty lights and flowers, it's very hard to tell. The amount of hype and ratings hunger games got was a little bit unnecessary. I wasn't really a big fan of it.

There was no build up to the effects of the actual events. things just got rushed from one section to another. Like it went from a 13th century type town to a really futuristic city. People with very powerful colour outfits and strange hair cuts. When the characters did certain things, there was no anticipation. The film felt rushed and it didn't have time to fit everything in. Saying that it was a 2 hours and 20 minutes film. Things that would have meant risk in films would have done a lead up so the character feels more remorse and afraid but in this one, it went through events like they weren't going to matter to the character.

Hunger games didn't need the excitement and the hype around it. It's basically for the people that like twilight and it really suits with the teen sensations of today. I'm giving it a 4/10. It failed to excitement in any place. I tried to give it a chance but it nerve executed it and that's why i'm giving it a 4/10

Insidious Review

Insidious was a brilliant film, It's even better than the woman in black. it features the same horror film conventions but i'll get to that when i get to it.
The intro, Well where can i start with the intro, it takes 30 seconds for the film to actually get to the plotline but here comes to the actual introduction of the film. me and my mum were sat here for about a minute waiting for the film to start so i decided to skip it and i must have skipped past 2/3 minutes of the film just because of the intro.

during the film, when the little boy fell off the ladder, A very high piano struck, which i thought was quite weird and strange and it just sounded cheap but as you progress through the film, the striking of the piano makes perfect sense.

It's a really good film, there were a few moments in the film when i jumped so the tension was very well brought up with the array silence brought up by the music. Demons/creatures were moving but didn't interact with it's surrounding and look like they were manicins, and lifeless even though they were moving a normal person would do and blink like a normal person would do.

as you progresss through the film, it changes from mood to mood and i'm not saying it's a bad thing, i'm actually saying it's a good thing and more movies should do this. Instead of dragging out one plotpoint, they've tried different theories and different techniques and it pulls off in the end. Things change, things advance and things get better as you're going through the movie.

I'm going to give insidious a 8.5/10, Not a lot of films can pull it off, usually scary films aren't naturally scary for me but with the people walking through the house and having a look round, i was constantly thinking, 'i wouldn't be able to control myself' I'd say i was putting myself in their situation and if i was them, i wouldn't have the guts to do it.

Woman in black review

'Should not be a 12, Not scary but should not be a 12'. All the way throughout the movie, i could get daniel radcliffe as harry potter out of my head. I think if you've made a name for yourself like daniel radcliffe with harry potter, it's quite annoying because people will always reference you as that character, it's just like the actors out of friends, they'll always be refered to as ross or rachel or any of those characters.

Sure a loads of moments when things popped out at the screen are just cliche and overused conventions. I even said when daniel dropped the ever lasting matches, he picked it up and at this moment, i said to my friend that i was with, 'i bet something pops out of the screen as soon as he lights that match' and as it turns out i was correct.

It's not very scary but for the certificate it's been given, there would be a lot of people out there who are actually scared of this film. I can highly recommend this film if you're a fan of insidious or grave encounters.

When daniel is at one end of the dark room, when the camera pans up to reveal the door with the woman in black standing there, The soul or essence of the woman in black rushed forward and the sound effect that they used for that scream was cheap, I could literally type in Youtube 'Girl screaming' and receive the same results, that's how bad it was. I don't think the director paid good enough attention to the sound either, he was concentrating what was happening on screen but the music is what builds suspense. Sure they're a few peaks in the volume that tries to build up suspense but i felt like it failed to capture the audience.

I'm going to give the woman in black a 7 out of 10. it's mainly the sound that gets it down, it just felt like during the entire film that the director didn't care about the movie and only caring about the budget and made some sacifrices
